Are You Up to Your Neck in Pain?
By Sandy Schroeder
Life really can be hard on our necks and sometimes we wake up to find we have gone over the edge. Now there is a stiff, sore neck, neck spasm or ongoing neck ache that simply cannot be ignored.
Of course, we knew it was coming. It might have been helped along by arthritis or degenerative disc disease, poor posture, stress, or even lack of sleep. But now the cause and solution need to be sorted out and fixed.
Your local chiropractor, The Joint Chiropractic, is ready with the experience and the answers to help you sort everything out to keep your neck healthy.
Chiropractic Answers
When you arrive at The Joint, your chiropractor will use a spinal adjustment to assess the health of your spine and correct any misalignments, known as subluxations. At that point you may get far-reaching results for your neck pain. The corrections also work well for back and sciatica, and often trigger more energy, better digestion and improved metabolism.
As you discuss your neck pain with your chiropractor, he or she will want to review your daily activities and medical history. Then, the two of you can put together a chiropractic treatment plan to help you regain your normal routine without pain pills or surgery.
Often, this approach involves a weekly 15-minute chiropractic treatment that keeps you at your peak, and allows the chiropractor to keep an eye on any painful new twinges that might occur.
Here are some tips from healthharvard.edu to keep your neck happy:
- When you work, keep adjusting your neck position, and take frequent breaks. Avoid locking in on one fixed position for hours at a time.
- Make sure your computer monitor is at eye level, use a phone headset and prop tablets up instead of bending over them.
- Get a good night’s sleep and don’t overdo the pillows. Too many can limit your neck’s range of motion.
Take Time Out for a Stretch
For a simple neck stretch, tuck your chin in slightly and move your head backward, slowly and gently. Keep your head level. Do not bend or tip it. Hold the stretch for five seconds and repeat five times. Use throughout the day to keep your neck relaxed and flexible.
As you solve neck problems, the good doctors at The Joint Chiropractic will be ready to help with any other issues that come up. The Joint offers a private affordable care program that eliminates the hassle of insurance, and flexible weekday, weekend and evening hours. Walk-in visits are welcome.
