Getting sick from time to time is part of life. We all come down with colds or viruses or infections throughout our lives. Most of the time these occasions are no big deal. We see the doctor, get medicine, and are better in a few days. But even with minor illnesses, feeling down is definitely no fun. It gets in the way of our day-to-day tasks and keeps us in bed. Most of us try to stay healthy, but is there anything else we can do to improve our immune system and keep illness away? Actually, it may all be in your diet. Check out these foods that help fight disease and keep you healthier than ever.
Garlic
If you haven’t already added this to your normal diet, it needs a spot on your menu. Garlic is one of the most potent antibiotics and antifungals. By ingesting it, you’re keeping your gut, which is where 90 percent of your immune system is located, in a healthier state. This means a stronger ability to fight off any foreign invaders and potentially fewer trips to the doctor.
Yogurt
Yogurt with live cultures is an excellent way to keep your gut full of good bacteria. We generally associate the word bacteria with bad health. The truth is that some bacteria is good, and we need it to help balance out the bad. Yogurt can keep this good bacteria in healthy numbers, thereby enabling your immune system to fight sickness and keep you well.
Dark Leafy Greens
Leafy greens bring so many benefits to the body. For starters, they are packed full of Vitamin C, which gives the immune system a huge boost. Leafy greens also help to flush out your digestive tract, which is where toxins stay before being passed through. So, how can you get more leafy greens? Just add foods such as spinach, kale, lettuce, or collards.
No one likes to be sick. It’s no fun and it literally harms our bodies and minds. It gets in the way of all of the work that we have to do, and all of the fun as well! Protect your body and boost your overall health by adding these essential foods to your regular menu.
