How Often Should I See My Chiropractor

By Debra Rodzinak

Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing? Not when it comes to chiropractic care.

Chronic Back Pain

A few years ago, I injured my back and had severe lower back pain. After an initial visit to my doctor, he suggested I see our local chiropractor. My initial visit and subsequent visits brought complete pain relief to my particular back pain. I continued with bi-weekly visits to ensure that my spine remained pain-free and flexible.

In a study reported in The Spine Journal, patients who had chronic low back pain found more relief when receiving chiropractic care “3 to 4 times per week for 3 weeks.” The positive effect of chiropractic treatments for all patients was noted, but those who had several initial visits within the first month noted more relief than those who only visited once per week.

Sciatica Pain

When sciatica pain is added to the mix, the pain of the lower back and subsequent leg pain associated with sciatica can become unbearable and tiresome. The overall quality of life when dealing with this type of pain on a daily basis is diminished.

If you have ever had sciatica pain, you know the annoying, aching pain that runs down the middle of the leg all the way to the foot. With this type of pain, it is hard to get comfortable. Sleeping, sitting, walking, or driving can become a dreaded part of the day when sciatica pain is involved.

In another study reported in The Spine Journal, patients who suffered from both back pain accompanied with sciatica pain found relief with active manipulation. This supports claims that chiropractic adjustments are beneficial in relieving back pain without the use of drugs.
