Posture Tips for Every Chiropractic Patient

By Sara Butler

Posture is really important to your overall health – often more important than many people realize. Proper posture may be an abstract concept to you, but there are a lot of reasons why it’s something you should start taking seriously. Good posture is important to good spinal and overall health, so get started on your way to proper posture with these chiropractic tips!

Why Posture is Important

When you practice good posture you can sleep better, have less joint pain, and have better organ function. Plus, good posture can help to make your chiropractic treatments that much more effective, helping you to enjoy better health.

Tip No. 1: Be Aware

The first step to correcting your posture is to be aware of it – especially if you have poor posture. When you feel yourself starting to hunch forward, slump down, or your back begins to sway, then take a minute to correct it. If you pretend you have a string coming out from the top of your head, envision pulling the string and straightening everything below it up. Think tall and take a minute to memorize what good posture feels like.

Tip No. 2: Use the Wall

Much like how Luke Skywalker used the force, you should use the wall. This helps you understand how you should shift your pelvis in order to stand up straight. Many people get into the habit of tilting their pelvis back, but if you learn how to roll your pelvis forward then you can get a feel for it and keep it that way.

So, stand against a wall with your back flat to it. Your feet should be right under you as you press the small of your back against the wall. You can feel how your body will shift as your pelvis shifts. Do this as many times as you need to get a feel for how it feels so you can practice getting your pelvis in this position without the help of the wall.

Tip No. 3: See Your Chiropractor Regularly

Regular chiropractic treatments are going to help you correct your poor posture, even if you’re working on it at home. You’re going to be more successful in your search for better posture if your back is aligned and you have better mobility. Your chiropractor can also help you to find an exercise routine that works well for you in order to help you stay healthy.
