3 Ways to Tidy Your Mind for Better Focus

By Genevieve Cunningham

There’s nothing worse than having one of those days when you can’t think straight. You were supposed to do something … but what was it? You walk into a room … but why did I come in here? These days lead to frustration and stress. Even though these days happen to everyone from time to time, there may be some things that you can do to avoid it. Take a look at these three tips that help tidy your mind and leave you feeling more focused than ever.

Disconnect Every Day

Even though technology has a million benefits that it brings to our lives, it is also incredibly distracting. It’s also very fast moving and stimulating, so when we are without it, our brains have a hard time adjusting. In order to improve your overall focus and brain function, try turning it off on a regular basis. Turn off the computer, get off the phone, and let your mind rest from all of that online nonsense. Even if it takes a few days or weeks, you’ll likely notice a significant change in both your mood and your ability to concentrate on the task at hand.

Play Some Music

Some people think that music would be distracting, and for a small number of people, it is. But for the majority of people, it’s all of the other noises in the background that are distracting. The television, people talking, cars and traffic outside … all of these take your attention, even if you don’t notice it initially. Try turning off as much of the outside noise as possible, and play some constant music instead.  It might take some time to find the perfect kind of music for concentration, but once you find it, you may find it easier than ever to focus.

Take Some Breaks

Our brains need breaks from time to time. They need to reset, relax, and think about something off the wall. We can’t pay attention 24/7; it’s impossible! Don’t even try it. Take breaks when you need it. Some days you might need more than others, and that’s completely OK. Use your breaks to rejuvenate yourself, and allow your brain to reset before you go back to that serious concentration.

It can be tough to concentrate on some days. And if you have those days from time to time, it’s probably OK. But if you find more of these days happening than you would like to admit, practice these tips to enhance your focus and feel better than ever.
