Can Chiropractic Help Relieve Diabetic Pain?

By Debra Rodzinak

With 1 in 3 Americans expected to be diagnosed with diabetes by 2050, chiropractors are an excellent entry into a conservative approach to lower back pain -- a common complaint of those who suffer from type 2 diabetes or are pre-diabetic.

Trials on Diabetes

The National Institute of Health (NIH) conducted a three-year trial that looked at overweight subjects at 27 different sites across the United States.  Patients who were pre-diabetic where divided into three different groups.  The first group was counseled in lifestyle changes, the second group was given the popular drug metformin, and the last group was given a placebo.

The results were impressive.  The patients who changed the way they ate and added exercise to their daily routine cut their risk by 58 percent compared to the prescription drug group who only decreased their risk by 31 percent.  This study supported the idea that decreasing weight to a normal level is better for a person’s overall health -- something chiropractors have known for years.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors report that patients who suffer from diabetes do not respond as well to many treatments due to their increased body mass index, which puts additional stress on the body’s joints.  When a chiropractor is presented with a patient who is pre-diabetic, many times the chiropractor will work with the patient to develop an overall treatment plan that includes chiropractic, exercise, and a healthy diet.

If you are suffering from pain associated with diabetes or are pre-diabetic, come by The Joint Chiropractic to discuss the different ways a chiropractor can bring you relief.  Many patients are able to decrease their back pain while increasing their mobility.  With increased mobility and decreased pain, exercise becomes more pleasurable and many patients are able to continue to loose weight.

The Joint offers more than 360 different sites to choose from nationwide.  Finding a location near you is easy and convenient.  At The Joint, patients work with chiropractors to develop a treatment plan that is unique to the patient.  The Joint is reinventing the chiropractic experience by putting the patient in charge of their own treatment plan -- it’s on your terms, not ours.

There are no appointment times, so a patient can walk-in at any time to find relief.  If you are looking for pain relief due to pre-diabetes, come by The Joint today.  With no pesky insurance forms to fill out or appointment times to remember, finding relief for your spine and joints is just a walk-in away.
