Pets Can Provide Peace of Mind And Better Health
By Tom Herrin
Do you consider yourself a pet person? Do you have several, take them everywhere you go, dress them, and treat them like children? Maybe you are the farthest thing from it. After all, you have a really busy schedule, and there is no time in it for playing with or taking care of pets. If this latter scenario seems to fit you, the reasons not to consider a pet may be the very reasons you should consider having one.
You May Have A Negative Opinion of Pet People
If you have been in the grocery store and seen someone with a pet in the basket looking at fresh produce or baked goods, you may have a tainted idea of how people and pets interact. In this hypersensitive world of political correctness, many stores have instructed their employees not to ask anyone why they have a pet in the fresh food section for fear that it is a service animal and they might offend someone or interfere with their rights. Just about anyone with a service animal doesn’t mind providing some information regarding the need to a store employee. Most pet people are good, caring individuals who enjoy the companionship of pets and like the interaction.
How Can Pets Be A Health Benefit?
Pets can truly provide companionship, be extremely loving and loyal, and tend to be more tolerant and forgiving of your own occasional bad behavior than human companions. According to Jeanie Lerche Davis in an article entitled “5 Ways Pets Can Improve Your Health” from webmd.com, pets can help lower blood pressure and anxiety, boost immunities, increase longevity, and even help get dates. Several recent studies have indicated that children who live with pets have less incidence of various illnesses than those who don’t. As for getting more dates, it’s not that compared to your dog you look good as much as it is that pets are a great conversation starter. Except for people who hate pets, you have something in common. That is always a really good way to meet and get to know people.
Which Pet Is Right For You?
Picking the right kind of pet may be worth giving some thought. Even watching fish can be soothing, and they don’t require much time. My brother and his wife once had a pet monkey who lived in a closet. That was high maintenance. You had to be careful about even opening the oven because the monkey would jump in. Dogs are a great conventional pet you can take for walks. You will spend a little time caring for them, but it will be fulfilling. If you are looking for a lifestyle lift, try a pet. Go to that pet store or shelter and look around. Chances are you may just fall in love and find better health at the same time.
