Why Skipping Chiropractic Maintenance is a Mistake

By Krista Elliott

I went to the dentist last week. The hygienist gave my teeth a good cleaning and flossing, I had a fluouride treatment, X-rays, and walked away with shiny, clean teeth.

I was asked when I wanted my next appointment to be, and couldn't believe my ears.

"What do you mean, I have to come back?" I asked. "What's the point of me even getting this done if I just have to keep coming back? What kind of racket is this, anyway?"

You're probably looking askance right now and thinking, "Um, lady. It's called maintenance."

And you'd be right. We understand that when it comes to teeth cleaning or haircuts or oil changes, that these are services that we have to maintain when it comes to keeping things in tip-top shape.

Well ... the same principle applies when it comes to chiropractic care.

Why Maintenance is Vital

There are a few reasons why chiropractic care isn't a one-and-done kind of deal, and why regular chiropractic maintenance is your best bet for ongoing good health.

  • You Can Fully Heal — Tissues take time to heal, and even though one chiropractic adjustment will likely help you feel a lot better, it doesn't mean you're all fixed up. What chiropractic adjustments do is help the body become better aligned so that the tissues can heal properly and with optimal nerve function. Getting one adjustment and then quitting is kind of like getting a cast put on a broken bone, and then taking it off after one day: You're not giving your body a chance.
  • Avoid Future Pain — Regular chiropractic adjustments serve to nip any small subluxations in the bud before they become big, painful, debilitating problems. As well, by helping to ensure that your frame is in the best alignment possible, your balance and coordination are aided, helping you prevent future stumbles or falls.
  • Keep Feeling Great — A lot of back pain is of the chronic variety. Whether due to previous injuries or your lifestyle, there is some back pain that has to be managed, not cured. Regular chiropractic care helps you manage your back and joint pain, keeping it from interfering with your busy lifestyle.
  • Drug-Free Pain Relief — Too many people balk at the thought of routine chiropractic care, but think nothing of taking daily painkillers for their back and joint pain. With regular chiropractic maintenance, you may be able to manage your pain to the point where painkillers become unnecessary, saving you money and reducing the risks of dangerous side effects or addiction.

So, give your body the routine maintenance it needs to feel great, and stop by The Joint Chiropractic today! (I'll do the same, after I go apologize to my dentist.)
