Reasons to See a Chiropractor Even When Nothing Hurts
By Krista Elliott
As Americans, our entire health care philosophy can be summed up in one word: reactive. If we get sick, we treat it. If we get hurt, we fix it. And then we go on our merry way, completely ignoring our health until it starts to give us problems again. Whether you're a general physician, a dermatologist, an optometrist, or yes, a chiropractor, it's a pretty common situation.
The result? Many of us are walking around with low-grade health issues that may still be asymptomatic, but that are preventing our bodies from working (and feeling) their absolute best.
Not sure what I mean? Read on.
Why Routine Care is Vital
There are actually multiple reasons why you need to make regular chiropractic care a part of your health routine. Here are just a few of those reasons:
- You're Not Finished Healing — If you have a joint injury, it's very possible to feel relief from your pain in just a few treatments. The problem is when people think they're all done. By skipping subsequent treatments, they haven't given the muscles around the joint a chance to heal and to stabilize the joint into position. So you've got a joint that's back in alignment, but until those muscles heal, odds are good that the problem will just keep recurring.
- Things Might Be Serious — So, you slip and fall on your steps, or get into a fender-bender. You're a little sore for a day or two, but ignore it, and don't bother getting a chiropractic examination. Weeks later, you find that you have recurring headaches, joint pain, tight muscles, and other physical symptoms that just won't go away. With routine chiropractic treatment, those symptoms could have been nipped in the bud and treated to keep them from developing as severely as they did.
- Your Child is Growing — Routine chiropractic treatments are vastly important to a growing (and still ossifying) spine. With regular examinations and adjustments, any irregularities or subluxations in your child's spine or frame can be treated and corrected before the bones fully harden and things set into place. It is much easier to make small adjustments as your child grows than to try to correct scoliosis or joint restrictions once they're an adult.
- You Use Your Body Daily — When you do a virus scan and cleanup on your computer, do you do it once and then figure you'll never have to do it again? Of course not. You use your computer daily and know that it will need subsequent cleanups. Well, you also use your joints and spine daily. Regular maintenance check-ups will help offset the wear-and-tear you put on your body, and will also help identify and treat small problems before they become large ones.
So even if you feel fit as a fiddle, why not stop by The Joint Chiropractic and have an examination done? With a chiropractic routine from The Joint that works with your schedule and your budget, you'll continue to feel great, month after month, year after year.
