Is Your Back Happy With Your Mattress?
By Sandy Schroeder
When back pain emerges, the search to pin down causes often includes mattresses. If your mattress is a little lumpy, or quite soft, you may want to try out a new, medium-firm mattress.
Harvard Health researchers studied 300 people with back issues, who slept on a medium-firm or firm mattress for three months. The ones on medium-firm mattresses reported less pain issues than the ones on firm mattresses.
Before you shop, run some tests to see what your back likes. Stay at someone else’s home, or in a hotel. Or put a board under your mattress to add firmness.
Seeing a Chiropractor
As you pursue ways to relieve back pain, a visit to your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic could be invaluable.
The Joint’s staff of licensed chiropractors are well equipped to help you seek pain relief and advise you on the best prevention tactics. When you come in, you will be asked about your pain, your normal activities, and your medical history.
Pain in the back, and other joints, can be caused by joint restrictions, which may respond well to chiropractic adjustments. The adjustment is done with the gentle application of a targeted movement to improve motion of the body’s spinal column and extremities. The adjustment may help to relieve pain and provide other refreshing benefits, such as more alertness, fresh energy, or improved digestion. Others report better sleep or better metabolism.
Path to Wellness
You and your chiropractor can assess the results of your adjustment to create an ongoing treatment plan. At the same time, your chiropractor will be able to monitor you for any other joint issues.
I watched two of my relatives deal with back pain that threatened to reshape their lives. Normally, they were active people with demanding jobs. But then back pain moved in, and shut everything else down. Gradually, with their chiropractors’ support, they were able to find pain relief without using pain medications or surgery. In the course of treatment, they also evaluated their mattresses, lost some weight, and learned how to siphon off stress. Both were able to return to their jobs and reclaim their lives. When I last talked with them, they were busy with work, hobbies, grandchildren and travel.
Stop by The Joint Chiropractic to find out how simple everything can be. The Joint provides an affordable care program that replaces insurance. No appointments are needed, and walk-in visits are welcome. Weekend and evening hours are available.
