Perfect Posture is Never Easy: 4 Tips to Improve
By Virginia Laird
When I hear the word posture it gives me chills. One thing I absolutely despise to work on is great posture. There is little comfort in holding your back up straight. As much as I dislike it, I know it is important. As we age, posture increases in its importance. The longer one goes with improper posture the more the damage to the spine. There are several exercises that help to work on posture. Aside from exercises there are a few things to help your posture that do not include sweating it out.
Stretch Your Body Daily
Adding stretching to your daily routine can help release tension in the muscles. Small, simple exercise and stretches can help your body more easily recognize correct posture. Some of these exercises include:
- Shoulder shrugs
- Shoulder rolls
- Spinal extension
- Yoga poses
Wear Comfy Clothes and Shoes
One important aspect of having correct posture is wearing comfortable shoes. Shoes that are comfortable on the feet allow you to move more naturally. Shoes that obstruct natural movement often can put stress on your back. Anytime your back is stressed it can be more difficult to support proper posture. Improper posture doesn’t only affect your back. Because your spine offers help to transmit messages to the entire body, poor posture can wreak havoc to your entire health.
Get Some Rest
Sleep is paramount to one’s health. Sleep allows the body to naturally repair itself. Think back to the last time you were overly exhausted. Was it more difficult to have good posture? Did you feel like you were dragging yourself around all day? As you are able to get more sleep, you can feel energized. The surge of energy can be persuasive in maintaining proper posture.
Seek Help From Your Chiropractor
Admitting you have a problem with anything can be difficult. Reaching out for help identifying weaknesses can be helpful. A chiropractor specializes in taking care of the spine and (consequently) posture. With mild adjustments your chiropractor can help restore function to your spine. You may also notice an increase in your overall mobility. Let your chiropractor help get you standing up straight again.
