Reasons You May Have Back Pain

By Virginia Laird

Do you have back pain that won’t go away? Chiropractors recommend that adjusting your schedule or habits ever so slightly can help ease the pain you may be feeling. Although the thought of changing your routine or habits may not sound appealing, it can be easier than at first thought. A few things to consider are:

  • Participating in the workaholic lifestyle - This is a lifestyle that involves working at almost every waking hour
  • Skipping yoga - This is an exercise that involves stretches to strengthen muscles
  • Working through the pain - This is pure stubbornness at its best and thinking the pain will go away

Taking a deeper look into these issues may offer some guidance on how to alter your lifestyle. Altering just one of these behaviors can offer significant relief.

You Are a Workaholic

If you fall in the workaholic category (as I do), you may be causing tension and stress to your body. This lifestyle can be difficult to overcome. It is important to set boundaries when it comes to working and make time limits when possible. Having time to relax can be beneficial to your health. Many chiropractors suggest participation in meditation, light stretching and evening routines, among other techniques, to help your body get rid of stress.

You Skip Yoga

If you have never taken a yoga class, you are missing out. I was a skeptic of yoga for many years until I actually tried it and put all doubts to rest. Most chiropractors highly recommend participation in yoga as a workout that strengthens your muscles while practicing breathing techniques to help your body release stress. It is great for the spine and is super low stress for the entire body. People of all ages and fitness abilities can enjoy this workout.

You Try to Work through the Pain

Don’t try to be too tough. It is important to seek help when you have pain in your back and neck. Research suggests that most pain begins with the shifting of the spine that causes restriction of function. Your chiropractor can help you to determine what the cause of your pain is. He or she is highly trained to care for the spine, restore function, which in turn has the added benefit of restoring some mobility. Working through the pain is overrated, especially when the solution can be so simple.
