Chiropractic Puts Painful Hands Back to Work

By Sandy Schroeder

We live in a busy world. Our hands need to show up every day. There’s breakfast to assemble, coffee to pour, totes to load. Does that sound like your morning?

Hands show up during the day to do many tasks. At the end of the day, hands may fix dinner, do laundry, and tuck little ones into bed.

Excessive use of keyboards and small tools can trigger hand pain. Arthritis may cause problems.

Stop by The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you to get answers. The Joint’s licensed chiropractors are well equipped to help.

The focus will be on spinal health and adjustments. When the spine works, so do we. The spinal adjustment is a gentle focused movement to improve the function of the body’s spinal column and extremities.

Pain relief and well-being may be achieved. You and your chiropractor can evaluate the results. As you lose pain, and regain effectiveness, exercise may help.

Any exercises that you use should be approved by your chiropractor and doctor. Stretches should be done gently without feeling pain. These samples from Harvard Health are particularly good for people who use keyboards.

Hand Wrist Stretch

  • Hold one hand at chest level with elbow bent.
  • Use the other hand to grasp the thumb side of hand to bend the wrist down.
  • Switch hands. Repeat.

Hands and Fingers

  • Hold one hand at chest level with elbow bent.
  • Grasp the fingers of that hand with the other.
  • Pull the hand back gently.
  • Switch hands. Repeat.

I have watched many relatives deal with painful hands. One aunt is a fabulous baker. She was saddened when she could not bake the family’s pies. Her hands were letting her down. But her chiropractor helped her regain use. She is baking again! I am sure her family sent a thank you note to the chiropractor!

Another uncle loves to fish with his grandkids. When his hands began to fumble tasks, his family went along on fishing trips to help. His chiropractor helped to ease the pain. He and his grandkids kept right on fishing!
