The Joint-North Raleigh a Sponsor of Ella's Race
The Joint Chiropractic in North Raleigh was one of the proud sponsors in last month's Ella's Race, an annual event to raise money for The Cure Starts Now and The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
The event is held annually in honor of Ella Newmiller, who was diagnosed April 29, 2008, with a rare and aggressive non-operable tumor in the brain stem; she was 4 at the time. The disease usually attacks children between the ages 5-7. Ella was 8 when she died on Feb. 8, 2012. (See video of Ella's story at www.ellasrace.com)
The local fundraising event is particularly important because Ella was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare disease that affects only about 300 children annually and receives only 4 percent of research funding allocated to pediatric cancers by the National Cancer Institute.
The "Ella-bration" created by the local Chik-fil-A in 2008 grew into a race in 2012 that has raised thousands for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. More than 1000 runners participated this year and raised $25,000 to fight pediatric brain tumors. The Joint Chiropractic is proud to be part of that effort.
