Healthy Living Tips to Remember for Summer

By Genevieve Cunningham

Summer. It’s almost here, and most people couldn’t be any more excited! Summer is a time to relax, go on vacations, hang out with friends, and just enjoy life. But it’s also a time when it’s important to watch out for your own health and wellness. It’s easy to get distracted at this time of year, and so some health aspects tend to suffer. To keep yourself healthy all summer long, take a look at these tips to incorporate now.

Get Both In and Out of the Sun

It might sound a little contradictory, but hear out the reasoning. The sun is actually good for our bodies. We need to soak in the Vitamin D provided by the sun. It can boost moods, enhance our skin, and promote bone health. But too much sun can reverse the positive side effects and cause excessive damage such as sun spots, dry skin, wrinkles, and even cancer. To balance out the need for the sun and the need for protection, make sure that the time in the sun is limited, and that the body is also protected by sunscreen, layers, sunglasses, and shade. With this approach, you’ll have the best of both worlds.

Drink More Water Than Usual

The summer is hot! This means that we sweat more and lose more fluid in our bodies. To make up for this loss, make sure that your water intake is more than usual. Drink a good eight glasses a day, and if you can stomach it, drink even more than that. If you’re finding it difficult, try nixing all other forms of drink and carrying a water bottle with you at all times during the day.

Eat Small, Light Meals All Day Long

It’s easy to feel bloated and too full during the summer. The heat keeps us from feeling overly hungry, and so the best approach to staying healthy is to eat light, small meals throughout the day. These meals should consist of proteins and veggies, while snacks might include a little fruit. The key is to keep it small, as big meals can make you feel overheated and rundown, which ruins the magic of summer as well as your health.

Staying healthy in summer is a little different from staying healthy in other seasons. The temperature, the directness of the sun, and the general activity of the season demand different health measures. But because the summer can be dangerous if not taken seriously, paying attention to health is massively important. To protect yourself and have a great time this summer, incorporate these tips and enjoy your time off.
