Great Workouts for Joint Pain
By Sara Butler
Your joints do a lot of work for you. They help you move throughout your day effortlessly – or nearly effortlessly if you suffer from joint pain. Still, getting your body moving is important, even if you suffer from joint pain. When you can stay fit and active, then you will be healthier. That’s why you shouldn’t take joint pain laying down. Instead, try a few of these chiropractor-approved exercises that are kinder to your joints.
Walking
You walk every day to get where you’re going, but adding some extra steps to your day can have a big impact on your overall health as well as keep your joints safe. Walking is gentle enough exercise that it doesn’t place undue stress or strain on your joints. You shouldn’t just stroll along; you need to get your heart pumping! But taking a brisk walk at an increased pace is gentle enough on your joints not to aggravate joint problems you may already have. As you become better at it, you can increase the intensity of it too!
Swimming
Swimming, swim jogging, water aerobics – anything you can do in water will be kind to your joints! It’s great exercise for your whole body while taking pressure off your joints as they go through their full range of motion. The water cushions your body and joints while you burn calories and get your heart pumping. So, when in doubt, go with water!
Weights
Weight training for joint pain? Yes! Many people are hesitant when it comes to weights, believing that it places undue stress and strain on the joints. But, that’s simply not the case. Weight training can actually help to build up muscles that act as important supports for the joints. You have to remember that if your muscles are strong, then there will actually be less stress placed on your joints as you move through the activities of everyday life.
