3 Ways to Improve the Appearance of Cellulite
By Genevieve Cunningham
Summer is one of the worst times to be dealing with cellulite. The truth is that everyone has some amount of cellulite on the body, the most common locations being the legs, rear, and stomach. But even though everyone has a little, no one wants to show theirs off. Since you can never completely get rid of cellulite, the next best thing is to learn how to hide it! Take a look at these three tips for improving the appearance of cellulite just in time for summer.
Drink Water
Water helps to flush out toxins and waste from the body. It also flushes broken fat from cells. You’ll have to exercise and count calories to break down the fat, but once you’ve done so, the water will help remove it from the body. Water can also help to clear the skin of other blemishes, so that the only thing you’re dealing with is the cellulite itself. Will this make a huge difference? Probably not. But many people find it helpful in their quest to make cellulite less visible.
Lose Fat, Build Muscle
Cellulite is caused by fat under the skin. When there’s more fat, it gets squished under the skin and in between collagen layers. This forces parts of the fat to pop out causing that dimpled appearance. Since it’s literally fat popping from beneath the skin, lowering overall body fat percentage can help with the appearance. Will it be gone completely? Likely no, but the amount seen by the naked eye will be far less with less fat content.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating is the act of scrubbing the skin in order to remove dead skin cells and promote the growth of new ones. This is often done with a special cloth or loofah, and is done in a circular motion. While this can’t remove cellulite, growing new, fresh skin cells does help to make the skin in the area look younger and more fresh. Should you exfoliate every day? For most people, exfoliating about three times a week is enough to see positive results.
Cellulite is frustrating for most people, but take heart in the fact that it’s completely normal. And work to diminish its appearance by using these tips on a regular basis. Whether the improvement is major or minor, you’ll likely feel better about yourself and your body, which might just make you forget the cellulite altogether.
