Fashion Can Be Painful: 3 Tips that Can Help
By Virginia Laird
Fashion can be fun and exciting. Many people, especially women, invest a great deal of time and money in clothing and accessories in hopes to feel more beautiful. Along with style can come a great deal of pain. The saying, "beauty can be painful" is true. Shoes are bought with little consideration as to the comfort they may offer. Purses and clothing are bought to satisfy the eye. Chiropractors have a few tips they recommend to patients when it comes to being stylish and preventing pain. These include:
- Wear short heels
- Stick with a small purse
- Loosen the clothing
Wear Short Heels
If you cannot go without wearing heels, it is important to select a shoe with a shorter heel. Chiropractors recommend keeping the heel at two inches or shorter. Choosing a lower heel puts less stress on the spine. Heels, no matter the height, can impede the natural stride. It is vital to include tennis shoes and flats in your wardrobe to help prevent back pain.
Stick with a Small Purse
I love a good satchel purse. These are large enough to stuff everything I may need inside, as well as many things that are not needed. Most of the time my purse has a full water bottle, diapers, wipes, and a snack or two, in addition to all the necessities. This keeps my purse heavy at all times. Chiropractors suggest sticking with a smaller purse. Let's face it, if you carry a smaller purse there is less space to pile in all the unnecessary items that can weigh you down. Carrying a heavy purse around can put strain on the spine, causing pain. Do yourself a favor and find a smaller purse that meets your style needs.
Loosen the Clothing
There is nothing worse than wearing clothing so tight you cannot even sit down comfortably. Too often, this is the style. There is no need to jump on this bandwagon. Chiropractors suggest clothing that is too tight can cause back pain. As clothing restricts the body's ability to move, it can put strain and stress on the spine. Try loosening up your clothing just a bit to help reduce and prevent back pain.
Applying these tips to your life can help significantly reduce pain. Seeing as how making these changes may require some mall time, happy shopping!
