A Little more Sunshine Can Brighten Your Health
By Tom Herrin
There are plenty of things that can be done to improve health. Some are pretty expensive and complicated, others are much simpler. There is no reason for people to change their entire way of living or buy into some complex program to get results in trying to improve their health. The real shortcut may be a back-to-basics approach. Finding a way to get more sunlight in your everyday life can pay off in a big way and do so in a relatively short period of time.
It May Lessen Pain
Most people don’t really care for pain, at least not the ones I know. Believe it or not, the sun actually can have some positive effects on the body in dealing with pain. The sun has an amazing amount of energy. It is generally believed that the sun can either make pain go away or make it more tolerable. Some believe that the warming effects of the sun can warm muscles and help relieve stiffness. I often sit or lay in the sun to help with some soreness I have experienced. For me, it seems to work quite well.
It May Strengthen Bones And Protect Against Some Cancers
Sunshine is pretty well-known for providing Vitamin D. This is one of those vitamins that can pack a lot of good in small things. One study showed that Vitamin D seemed to reduce the chance of dying from breast cancer or colon cancer. Similar results were seen in relation to some other cancers. Even though it is common knowledge that people need to protect themselves from some harmful rays of the sun, exposure at the right time of day and in the right way may be a great defense.
It Can Wake You Up And Get You Motivated
The hormone that makes people sleep is melatonin. It is one of those things that is currently sold in pill forms over-the-counter. A lot of young mothers are currently using it to help their children sleep, which is a questionable practice for another discussion. Sunshine seems to have the ability to make it stop working, effectively waking people up. A good dose of sunshine in the morning appears to be able to wake people up much better than devices designed for that purpose. If you are one of those people who have trouble getting started in the morning, a little more sunshine may be just what is needed to do the trick. Combining this with some of the other possible health benefits can make sunshine one of the most effective things you can do for the price. Give it a try and see if you agree.
