Loss of Energy Could Mean Low Iron

By Tom Herrin

Sudden change in people’s physical condition can be really unsettling.  It always sends a signal that they could have serious health problems.  When people begin to have less energy or feel tired, it could signal any of several things.  There is always the hope that it could be something a little less serious.  Nutrition can play a surprising role in the overall feeling of well-being people have.  Sometimes small things can make a big difference.  When people are low on iron, they can experience a considerable loss of strength and energy.  It may not necessarily mean illness, but it could mean that there are some changes in their lives that need to be addressed.

Iron Keeps The Body Working

Everything has its place in the human body.  Balance is a real key.  The role that iron plays is critical.  It helps to do two pretty important things.  First of all, it helps to carry oxygen throughout the body, helping to work with food to burn like a fire to produce energy.   Carbon dioxide waste is given off through respiration.  Another thing iron does is carry nerve impulses.  People low on iron may feel weak or confused when performing some mental tasks.

You May Not Be Pregnant Just Because You Are Low On Iron

For most pregnant women, iron supplements are natural.  After all, the mother supplies all of the baby’s nutritional needs during development.  This can take a toll on the mother that may show up in the baby as well.  Some medications can deplete iron also.  People suffering loss of blood for any reason are often low on iron.  There may be some other reasons for temporary iron deficiencies.

Supplements Can Be Helpful

While people should not try to diagnose all of their own problems, it is good to be aware.  A great way to have a simple check on iron level can be done for free.  Any time people donate blood, their iron level will be checked.  If the level is too low (determined after getting their finger pricked), they will be sent on their way with information on their iron.  If you feel like your iron may be low, there are plenty of iron fortified cereals or other foods.  Supplements are available with multi vitamins, or alone.  Do a little research and take the simple steps if you believe you are anemic.  If it works, great.  You may find something as simple as this can provide a real change in your overall health.
