5 Back-to-School Tips
By Virginia Laird
As parents begin the hustle and bustle of going back to school, it can get stressful and expensive. Many people look for ways to decrease the stress as well as the amount of money needed to be spent. There are a few tips to consider to help with such stress:
- Shop for deals on school supplies
- Start heading to bed early now
- Purchase a good backpack
- Try out new lunch ideas
- Have a homework plan
Shop For Deals on School Supplies
Almost every store offers deals on school supplies at some point prior to school starting. Take a minute to browse through the ads or on the store’s website for deals. This can save a great deal of dollars. Be sure to look for the penny deals that several stores offer.
Start Heading to Bed Early -- Now
Heading to bed early now can help the body get adjusted to the new routine school will have on a student later on. Another benefit of heading to bed early is that it can help a person to get enough sleep to be able to fully function the next day.
Purchase a Good Backpack
A good backpack goes a long way in helping a student get all those books from one place to another. In this society, more schools are shying away from the use of lockers and relying on a student's ability to carry all their supplies from class to class. A great backpack has wheels and can be rolled. However, where these are not allowed, it is important to invest in a backpack that provides the most support to the back and has straps at least two inches wide.
Try Out New Lunch Ideas
If you have a picky eater, summer can be a great time to try out new lunch ideas. Using these last few weeks before school begins to run a trial on lunches can help ease the stress of packing the lunch during the school year. This can allow parents to know what the student will eat and what to leave off the menu.
Have a Homework Plan
Have a plan for getting homework accomplished. When there is no plan, homework has a tendency to be pushed off and done at the very last minute. It is best to complete homework early enough that there is little to no time crunch. This allows for the least stressful environment to complete any assignment.
Good luck getting your family ready to head back to school, and may this be a school year to remember.
