How to Eat and Lose Weight
By Virginia Laird
Like many, one of my favorite things is enjoying some delicious food. While many believe in order to lose weight a person must give up some of the foods he or she enjoys, this is simply not true. Weight loss is more about making good decisions as well as portion control. Research suggests that starving the body actually causes it to go into starvation mode, which can cause weight gain. Eating plays a huge role in meeting a person’s goal to shed the pounds. A few things to include in a diet to lose weight include:
- Increase protein consumption
- Stop skipping out on fats
- Don’t be afraid of spices
Increase Protein Consumption
A diet with increased protein consumption is one that many find easier to lose weight. Protein is what the body burns first. It helps to build muscles and gets the body awake and thriving. Research suggests that people should make it a priority to have a protein-based breakfast each morning. This does not mean breakfast cannot include cereal. However, it should be paired with some protein. There are also a variety of cereals that offer increased amounts of protein.
Stop Skipping Out on Fats
Not too long ago, it was believed that a fat-free choice was the best choice when trying to keep weight off. This has recently been proven to be false. Fats are what make a person feel full. Healthy fats are good for the body. It is important to include some healthy fats in the diet daily. It is recommended that 30 percent of a person’s diet be healthy fats. Portion control is important. Make sure to spread its consumption throughout the day to keep the diet balanced.
Don’t Be Afraid of Spices
Spices are a fantastic tool that are packed with nutritional value but very few (or no) calories. One of the best spices to include is cayenne. It helps to keep the bowels moving and the intestines healthy. There are many other wonderful spices to use. The only way to get comfortable with using spices is to practice. It might be a good idea to begin with a recipe that is tried and true before using spices on a whim.
Hopefully you are now armed with the information you need to enjoy your food. Here’s to eating to lose weight. Good luck on your path to a healthier, thinner you.
