These Habits Can Improve Your Health

By Virginia Laird

Everyone can find room for improvement when it comes to health and wellness. Such improvements need not be expensive or difficult to maintain. Rather, these can be simple habits and with a little determination, improvement can be recognized over a short period of time. A few habits to begin improving health can include:

  • Quit smoking
  • Spend a few minutes outside
  • Make sleep a priority
  • Drink lots of water

Quit Smoking

It is hard to believe with all the warnings, research, and health-related problems caused by smoking that people actually choose to continue or even begin this habit. The benefits of quitting far outnumber those for keeping this habit. Doctors, as well as studies, suggest smoking can be linked to high blood pressure, cancers, and lung issues. If you are struggling with this habit, there are several places that offer help. Don’t be afraid to reach out, everyone suffers from something that requires a little help to overcome.

Spend a Few Minutes Outside

The great outdoors has many benefits to offer when it comes to being healthy. Fresh air can give a boost to the immune system. Spending time outdoors regularly is linked to lowering stress levels.

Make Sleep A Priority

As a parent to young children, it can be difficult to get enough sleep. In my house, enough sleep may mean simply a few hours to allow me to function the next day, which can be as few as three hours. This is not healthy. It is important that everyone in the home gets enough sleep. It is recommended that adults get a minimum of six hours of sleep each night.

Drink Lots of Water

While water may not be most people’s drink of choice, it is the best drink to choose. Water offers no calories, allowing a person to drink an unlimited supply. As the body stays hydrated, the functions of the body remain unhampered. It is vital to make it a priority to drink enough water. If you aren’t sure how much you are drinking each day, begin writing it down. It is recommended that a person drink at least half of their body weight in ounces daily.

Start improving your health right away by adding just one or two of these habits to your daily routine. Good luck on your path to a healthier you!
