Stress and Sleep: Lower One and Get More of the Other

By Brandi Swieter

Stress can put a toll on the body, especially for those who suffer from stressful situations on a daily basis. The added pressures of day-to-day life can be daunting for many people, causing them to not only fret during the daytime but also lose sleep at night. Those experiencing restless nights should work on lowering their stress levels so they can get more rest. There’s a few tricks that make this possible.

Start a Bedtime Ritual

Rather than someone going to bed whenever they see fit, they should set a bedtime ritual that will help them prepare for the rest they need. Too many people experience restless nights and are unable to get any shut-eye. A nightly routine could help to keep the body relaxed and comforted so it’s ready to drift off when darkness falls. Taking a warm bath could start the routine, along with drinking a warm glass of milk, lighting some lavender incense, and playing some soft tunes on the radio.

Get a Better Mattress

The correct mattress plays a significant role in ensuring people can get rest at night. The wrong mattress can put added stress on the body, causing discomfort and pain that makes people toss and turn throughout the night. If a person notices they wake up each day feeling exhausted and sore, they should consider purchasing a new mattress that feels better on the body.

Journal

Journaling isn’t just for teenagers looking to express themselves. Men and women of all ages can use journals as a way to reduce the stress they feel from everyday life. Get a notebook and jot down any negative thoughts and feelings felt about the day. It can help to think about the bad things and get them out of the way so the good can be focused on afterward. This is a great pastime that helps to eliminate stress felt, which could also get added to part of the bedtime ritual that will make it easier to sleep.

After attempting these few tricks to help reduce stress and get a better night’s sleep, more and more people should be able to get the nightly rest they need to take on the next day. Those who still experience stress, anxiety, and even pain, whether from their mattress or otherwise, should seek the help of a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic. They may be able to help eliminate further tension within the body so less stress is experienced and a good night’s rest comes easier.
