The Joint Sponsoring Third Ellie Helton Memorial 5K

The Joint Chiropractic-Cary is pleased to sponsor the third annual Ellie Helton Memorial 5K and Fun Run, which takes place Oct. 14 at the WakeMed Soccer Park.

The cost is $25 to participate in either the 5K run, 5K walk, or 1-mile run or walk.

The fun run begins at 9 a.m., and the 5K at 9:30, with the awards ceremony following. Participants will receive a T-shirt and their official time in the race. 

"The Joint Chiropractic-Cary is proud to support local foundations and charities," Dr. Mark Workman said. 

Ellie's race has raised more than $100,000 in its first two years. The Ellie Helton Memorial 5K proceeds support the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors. The foundation works with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.

It is estimated that 6 million people in the United States, or 1 in 50 people, have an unruptured brain aneurysm. Brain aneurysms are most prevalent in people ages 35-60 but they can occur in children, as well.
