Practice Healthy Habits While Watching Fall Shows

By Brandi Swieter

Many people equate fall to a season of fun, with plenty to get out and do during the evening hours. With fall festivals, hayrides, pumpkin carving, and more on the schedule, it’s hard to see how there could be time for anything else. People do need downtime, though, and what’s better than bingeing on some fall TV? Most of the new seasons of television come out in the fall months of September and October, giving people more to watch than they’ve had in awhile. Practice healthy habits while watching for a better viewing experience and better overall health.

Leave the Chip Bag in the Cupboard

Too many people bring along an entire bag of chips, popcorn, or other snacks to the couch when they’re ready to watch a show. Doing so should be avoided as it tends to lead to overeating. It’s easy to continue snacking with an entire bag at your fingertips. Instead, be sure to pour a bowl and keep the bags in the cupboards.

Try Healthier Snacks

Chips aren’t the only foods that pair well with TV viewing. Any snacks work while enjoying a show, even healthy ones. Carrot sticks, apple slices, celery with peanut butter, and other healthy snack options work just as well. Switch out the chips for one of these options and practice healthier habits.

Drink Water Instead of Soda

Many people pair their bag of chips with a can of soda while they watch their favorite shows. The excessive amount of calories while sitting can quickly lead to weight gain if people aren’t careful. There is also far too much sugar in soda pop that people don’t need. Instead of grabbing a soft drink, choose water instead. It has far more benefits and will keep drinkers hydrated and energized so they can keep watching.

Sitting on the couch for hours watching TV tends to lead to neck and back pain if people aren’t careful. Even if individuals do their best to practice healthy habits while watching their fall shows, not many think about the strain it can cause on their bodies. Visit The Joint Chiropractic during their weekend hours to get an assessment and see what needs to be done to eliminate any pain felt from watching; new shows don’t make the Saturday schedule.
