Fall Is A Great Time to Improve Lifestyle
By Tom Herrin
It is pretty easy to become stuck in a lifestyle that lacks a lot of the things that should be there in order to be healthy. People become sedentary, often because of the fact that they are very routine. The hot weather tends to keep many from getting out and being active due to the difficulty of actually dealing with the heat. By the time fall rolls around, too many people have established patterns of avoiding much activity. As the temperatures cool, it can be a great time to begin some new activities and enjoy them. For many, it is the opening of harvest and holiday seasons that bring about fond memories.
Take Up Some Outdoor Activity
Whether it is golf, tennis, or touch football, the fall generally feels good to just about everyone. People can be active without feeling as if they are suffering from heat exhaustion. When I was in college, I went out with some friends and played touch football almost every afternoon. It was a very modified game where I didn’t feel that I was doing that much heavy running or anything similar. After a short while, I realized I was feeling in much better condition. I adjusted my diet and lost 35 pounds in only a few months. It turned out to be a really good thing for me.
Do Some Fun Things
People don’t have to be kids to have fun, but if they have some fun, they can return to that childlike level of innocence on occasion. Activities such as corn mazes can be found most places. They can be mentally and physically challenging. As people struggle to find their way out, their heart rate may increase and they will burn a few calories on their trek. Doing it with others can make it really enjoyable, and there are plenty of similar activities to be found around.
Sample New Foods
The fall also provides some good opportunities for people to stroll around a farmers market looking at all the different kinds of food items available. You can add a little variety to your diet by trying some new recipes that include using some foods that you generally stay away from. You may be surprised by the flavor as well as the healthy qualities of these foods when they're fresh. The changes may be simple but can help be the start of a healthier lifestyle.
