Family Friendly Fall Festivities
By Virginia Laird
One of my favorite things about fall is the ability to come home from a long day of work and send the kids outside to play. Like most children, mine too love the outdoors, but there are still some times they long for adventerous acitivities. The fall is the best time of year to get outside and enjoy the pleasantries which accompany the season. Along with the rest of the families across the nation, you may be filling your family’s agenda full of fun fall festivities which can help enhance the excitement of fall. Although you may have a few must-do items on the list, there may still be time to consider some of the following:
- Take a trip to the local pumpkin patch
- Tackle a corn maze
- Crash a fall festival
Take a Trip to the Local Pumpkin Patch
While it may be easier to head over to the local supermarket to get your pumpkins, it is more fun to find the local pumpkin patch and enjoy the thrills that may be there. Many pumpkin patches offer great places for family photos, games, hayrides and even larger than life pumpkins. Make it a contest; see which family member can select the largest pumpkin to bring home for carving and decorating. It can be fun for the entire family.
Tackle a Corn Maze
Corn mazes are another fall activity which can be fun for everyone in the family. There is something exciting about wandering through overgrown corn stalks. Make it a race by dividing the family into a couple of groups to see who can win. If you have older children, a race against the parents can be fun, too. Make sure to look into the corn maze and know exactly what you are getting into. Some areas offer haunted mazes this time of year, which may not be a great idea for younger children.
Crash a Fall Festival
It seems almost everywhere you turn there is a fall festival to enjoy. Many of these festivals are filled with games, great treats, local musicians, and many other cool attractions. It can be easy to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Delay no longer, head out there with the kids in tow and enjoy some great fall festivities! You just may experience some fantastic family bonding while out enjoying the community together.
