3 Secret Sources of Energy for Your Body
By Genevieve Cunningham
Coffee, energy drinks, more sleep. You’ve heard of these solutions to a lack of sleep before. You’ve probably tried them all, and yet, your insomnia is still in full swing. Suffering from a lack of energy is incredibly tough on both the body and mind. And finding more energy is one of the hardest things to do. It seems as though no matter what we try, that sluggish feeling persists. If you need to find a little more energy in your life, take a look at these secret sources of energy that you may not have tried just yet.
Water
The vast majority of people do not drink enough water on a regular basis. In fact, in our world of energy drinks and sodas, many people may go an entire day without a single glass. Why does this matter? Because dehydration can bring a wide range of incredibly unhealthy side effects, and one of those side effects is a severe reduction in energy levels. If you want more energy, and caffeine isn’t doing the trick, it may be dehydration that’s keeping you down. Strive to increase your water intake, and you’ll be far ahead of the energy game.
Meditation
This is an energy source that is severely underused. Meditation, or the art of sitting with oneself, can calm the nerves, lower blood pressure, improve mental function, and enhance energy levels. The catch? It’s tough. Sitting alone with your own thoughts is a difficult thing to do, and most people quit long before the benefits are allowed to take hold. The key is to start very slowly -- one minute or less -- and build a solid meditation practice from there.
Deep Stretching
Stretching wakes up the muscles. It works out stiffness and soreness, and the muscles begin to demand oxygen. When this happens, the heart begins to pump oxygenated blood more quickly in order to meet the demands. And once your blood gets pumping, you begin to feel more awake and energized. If you need a little more energy in the mornings, wake up and get in a good, solid stretch before going about the rest of your day.
Finding more energy is possible, but you might have to think outside the box and get a little creative. Use these tips to improve your energy levels. You may find that getting a little extra boost is easier than you thought. And with just a little more energy, you may feel better than ever before just in time for the fun of fall and winter ahead.
