Fighting the Flu: 4 Tips to Keep It Away
By Virginia Laird
The debate over to get the flu shot or not is a neverending discussion. Some rely on this supplement to help keep the flu away. Others get the vaccine and still come down with the dangerous virus. Healthcare professionals, both for and against the flu vaccine, do agree that it is impossible to completely avoid the chances of falling victim to the flu. However, there are a few easy things you can do to help keep the germs away, including:
- Wipe away the germs
- Keep sanitizer handy
- Get plenty of sleep
- Drink lots of water
Wipe Away the Germs
It is important, especially during flu season, to wipe the surfaces of your home multiple times a day. This includes:
- Counter tops
- Toilets
- Doorknobs
- Tables and desks
Other places you could wash often to avoid spreading germs are your sheets and pillowcases, towels, and even sanitize furniture. Any place in the home that may be considered high usage areas should be wiped down often to prevent spreading germs of any sort.
Keep Sanitizer Handy
While some believe that sanitizing the hands after using the restroom is enough, during flu season it is vital to constantly sanitize them. Make certain to teach your youngsters to wash (or sanitize) before eating and drinking (or after touching a restaurant menu), touching their faces, and especially before bed.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Sleep helps the body function properly. It is important to make sleep a priority as part of your stay healthy scheme. It is recommended that adults should get a minimum of at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Children need even more sleep than this to stay healthy.
Drink Lots of Water
Another ingredient in staying healthy is water. The body needs enough water to keep the various systems functioning appropriately. Dehydration can slow the body, including the immune system. You need it to function properly in order to help keep the flu and other illnesses away.
Whether you choose to have your family vaccinated for the flu or not, making sure to apply these tips can help keep everyone in the house healthy. Make sure to stock up on sanitizer and disinfectants next time you head to the store. Creating healthy habits is a great way to help prevent the spread of illnesses. Let's hope you and your family can avoid the flu this season!
