3 Effective Tips for Enhancing Focus
By Genevieve Cunningham
Focus is a lot like sleep. It's an elusive concept that only a few people can ever truly find. But also like sleep, it's necessary if you want to be productive in life. Of course, everyone struggles with focus at one point or another. We have a million distractions pulling us in a million different directions. The key to better productivity in life’s tasks is improving focus just a little bit every day. If you need a little boost in your concentration, take a look at these tips to help you get moving in the right direction.
Limit Distractions
It's so easy to get distracted in today's world. If you don't feel like completing a task, you can waste time on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or any random website. Even if you’re trying to do your work, you may get distracted by text messages, notifications, or a number of different forms of communication. If you want better focus, it's best to limit these distractions. Turn down the phone and turn off notifications. Close useless tabs, shut down social media, and clear your desk. The less temptation there is available, the easier it is to stay on task.
Get a Little More Comfortable
It is so hard to concentrate when your body is uncomfortable. It's best to get yourself as comfortable as possible. This might include comfy clothes, a blanket and pillow, and plenty of back and neck support. The more comfortable you are, the less you’ll be thinking of too tight pants or shoes that hurt your feet, and the more you can focus on the task at hand.
Take Scheduled Breaks
Breaks are necessary. Even adults have a limited attention span. The best way to combat a short attention span is through scheduled breaks. You may need one per hour, two per hour, or one every two hours depending on your particular needs. Take your breaks as scheduled by leaving your work space completely, allowing your mind to clear and your attention to reset.
Whether you’re at work or doing something at home, paying attention is part of life. But sometimes it's really tough to stay focused and on task. Use these tips to improve your focus every day, and you may find significantly improved productivity as a much welcomed result.
