Flu Season: 3 Tips to Prevent Spreading Germs

By Virginia Laird

With all the excitement surrounding the arrival of fall, some seem to forget that fall also marks the beginning of flu season. While some opt for getting the flu vaccine in hopes of preventing the flu from taking over their home, the truth is that there is no surefire way to completely prevent the illness. Healthy hygiene habits can be one of the best ways to decrease the odds of falling victim to this virus. Some of these tips include:

  • Hand wash often
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Clean the house daily

Hand Wash Often

Hand washing remains one of the most basic aspects of healthy hygiene. During flu season it is increasingly important to wash them more often than just after having used the restroom. It is wise to wash your hands after coming in contact with others, being in public places, and after being outside, among many additional countless times. If there is ever a question of whether or not it is time to wash your hands, the answer should always be yes. This can help prevent the unnecessary spread of germs.

Get Plenty of Sleep

The body needs sleep to stay healthy. When you are deprived of enough sleep, the immune system cannot properly fight off the infections of viruses as needed. Doctors recommend that adults should get at least six hours of sleep each night. Although it may be tempting to cuddle on the couch to a late night movie after putting the kids to bed, make sure you have allowed enough time to get the rest needed to stay healthy.

Clean the House Daily

Although the chore of cleaning the house may not be the most exciting, during flu season it is superior to many of the other chores. Wiping the surfaces of the house can prevent the spread of germs. Another area of the home to make sure to clean often is the restroom, as well as any other highly used area of your home. Although your children may not appear ill, they have been in contact with many others throughout the day while at school. Unintentionally, the germs shared at school will be brought home. Help prevent the flu virus from taking over your home by stocking up on antibacterial wipes to use wherever necessary in your home.
