Why Your Feet Hurt

By Sara Butler

So, you’ve ditched the high heels because your chiropractor warned you of their dangers, but why do your feet still hurt? Aching feet are something many people deal with. The problem is many people don’t realize how their habits may be contributing to some barking dogs at the end of a long day. Here are a few of the things you may be doing to make your feet hurt without realizing it.

You’ve Worn the Same Shoe Size Forever

Most people stick with the shoe size they’ve had most of their adult life and don’t think to have their feel measured – but they should! There’s a pretty good chance you’re wearing the wrong size shoe simply out of habit.

The size of your foot can change as you grow older, so it’s important to have your feet measured regularly in order to keep them – as well as the rest of your body – healthy. Your feet are your foundation, after all. And problems with them can impact you from the ground up. So, remember when you’re out shopping for shoes to use that handy little measurement contraption and buy the right size!

You Bought Your Shoes in the Morning

So, you got your feet measured and bought a new pair of shoes according to that measurement but your feet still hurt. Why? Well, what time did you go shoe shopping? If it was in the morning, then it probably wasn’t an accurate measurement. That’s because your feet swell over the course of a day, so you shoe shop in the evening when they’re probably at their largest.

You Wear the Same Shoes for Every Workout

Not all workouts are created equal and neither are all workout shoes. There are different shoes for different exercises for a reason – to help keep your feet healthy and avoid injury. Different types of shoes offer different support for your feet and support different movements. Walking shoes are normally heavier because they have a leather upper to make them more durable. Cross-training sneakers are usually light, while heavier shoes are needed for high-impact sports such as basketball or tennis. But the right shoes for the right occasion and it can help to reduce discomfort and keep you healthy.

Your feet are your body's foundation, so care for them and you care for your entire body!
