Heading to the Gym? Consider These Classes

By Virginia Laird

With the dawn of 2018, you may be considering how to better spend your time while at the gym. With a wide variety of classes offered, it can be overwhelming to know which class best suits your workout style and ability. For this reason, I have decided to offer you some insight to a few of my favorite fitness classes, including:

  • Spin Class
  • Yoga
  • Water Classes

Spin Class Burns Calories

In the last six months I participated in my first spin class. Before class, I was worried about how exciting it would be, my booty getting sore from the seat, and the ability to burn calories on a stationary bike. Ten minutes after starting the class, most of these concerns were laid to rest. The only thing you won’t be able to avoid is a sore tush. However, after a couple of classes, it is a non-issue. Fitness instructors suggest that participants may burn up to 600 calories per hourlong class, and I certainly believe this. For the first time in a long time, I needed water while exercising. Don’t miss the excitement of this class! Check your gym for times.

Yoga Offers Relaxation and Toning

Having been a step aerobics instructor, I love a good fast-paced routine. Therefore trying yoga for the first time was a very different experience. It took me a couple of classes to really get into the relaxation of the exercise. I can honestly say, I do love yoga. My favorite part of the class is how I feel the next day. This class helps me to feel stronger and notice changes in the tone of my muscles. If you like a slow-paced relaxed atmosphere, this is the class for you. Procrastinate no more and start this class tomorrow.

Water Classes are Best for the Joints

Water classes are fantastic for the joints of the body. Water allows gravity to not be an issue. This is a great class if you struggle with back or joint pain of any kind. Truthfully, I was in the best shape of my life when I took water aerobics classes routinely. It is easy for these classes to be written off for only those who suffer with pain. However, they are great for everyone.

The next time you head to the gym be ready to put a new class to the test. You may find one you cannot live without. Good luck and may 2018 be your healthiest year yet!
