How to Use Technology to Get Fit
By Genevieve Cunningham
Technology has all but taken over the world. It’s a huge part of everyday life, and it’s something that most people simply won’t do without. But for all of the good it bring to the world, it has also caused a bit of a decline in overall health. Because of our ever growing technology options, we’re more sedentary than ever before, and this means we’re also unhealthier than ever before. But what if we could change that? What if we could use technology to improve health instead? Luckily, we can! If you love your latest technological device, but you’d also like to get in shape, take a look at these ways to incorporate both into your life.
Workout Apps
On almost any type of phone, there are tons of apps that can help you count calories, choose healthy food, and track your workouts. If you want to be healthy, download one or many of these apps and put them to work. A few effective apps that might be worth looking into include: My Fitness Pal (for both workouts and meals), Charity Miles (for the philanthropist), Digifit iCardio (for the statistician), and FIT Radio (for the music buff). If none of these strike you as interesting, try others. The options are endless, and chances are good that there is something out there for everyone.
Online Videos
If you’re not interested in downloading anything new, stick to your favorite video sites such as YouTube. YouTube is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exercise. Search for at-home cardio, yoga, calisthenic workouts … search for whatever you want to try, and you’ll probably be able to find something that fits your interest. Do this every day or a few times per week, and you’ll be on your way to better health without ever leaving your house.
Accountability
Sometimes getting fit just requires a bit of accountability. We need someone to push us, to ask us if we’ve worked out today, to give us ideas for healthy eating. Luckily, the internet is full of forums, social media groups, and other ways to get a bit of accountability. Search for a group of like minded individuals, and join their group in order to keep you on track and push you harder. This is cheaper and easier than a personal trainer, but gives you the same kind of accountability of you use it the way it was intended.
If you’re into technology (who isn’t?), there are multiple ways to use that interest to get in great shape. Use these tips or find some of your own to get the best of both worlds. Combining technology and fitness can work, and with some hard work, you may be able to get in the best shape of your life.
