How to Set Up a Home Workout Space

By Genevieve Cunningham

Sometimes the hardest part about getting in a workout is actually leaving your house. That bed is just so warm and that TV is just calling your name. It’s tough to put on those workout clothes and get your body moving. But what if you didn’t have to leave your house? What if all you had to do is roll out of bed and go to the next room? For some people, this is the only way a good workout is going to happen. If this sounds like you, take a look at these tips for creating the perfect at-home workout space to help you get fit and healthy.

Create Open Space

Working out requires space. If you have an extra bedroom or a garage, this is the perfect opportunity to put them to use. If you don’t have either of those areas free, just find a space that can be easily cleared when it’s time to work out. This might be the living room, a den, or even a playroom. Once you find the space, clear out as much junk as possible so that all you have to do is enter the room, move a few objects, and get to working out.

Buy Proper Equipment

You don’t have to buy equipment for your at-home exercise space, but it can certainly help. Get some resistance bands, dumbbells, kettlebells, yoga mats, and anything else that you really believe you’ll use regularly. Keep these pieces of equipment in your workout area, and your room will have that fitness atmosphere to help you stay motivated.

Set the Environment

If your workout space is uncomfortable, you’re not going to work out often enough. If you’re using the garage, make sure you have heat in the winter and a fan in the summer. If you’re using a room in the house, adjust the thermostat when necessary, keep water nearby, and have a few small towels ready to wipe sweat. The more your space feels like a fitness center, the more likely you are to actually use it for its intended purpose.

If you have the means and motivation to visit the gym, go for it! If not, use these tips to set up the perfect workout space at home. With a little creativity and some hard work, you can create an atmosphere that keeps you working toward your ultimate fitness goals. An at-home gym, a small workout space, a fitness centered garage … whatever works and keeps you going is the perfect place to start your new healthy life.
