6 Foods That Help Fight Pain
By Brandi Swieter
Chronic pain leads many people to try medications that simply mask the symptoms rather than alleviate them. With the consumption of some foods, this pain can actually be reduced and possibly even eliminated altogether over time. There are six foods that help fight pain that every person should have in their diet.
Ginger
Required in its organic form, ginger contains compounds that fight inflammation. Since inflammation is at the site of many aches, alleviating the symptom will help to reduce pain felt in the area. Use garlic cloves in dishes and teas for the best solution.
Cherries
The delicious red fruit known as cherries work especially well for those with arthritis. They contain anthocyanins that act as antioxidants, fighting off damaging cells. Just as aspirin does, cherries work to block pain enzymes. Muscle pain gets reduced with a dose of this fruit as well, including the use of cherry juice.
Fish
While not all fish types work, choices like salmon and even sardines have what it takes to get rid of pain in the body. They primarily target achy joints, backs, and necks. Blood vessels surrounding the spinal disks are responsible for transporting healthy nutrients. If these are blocked, the nutrients cannot get through. Omega-3 fatty acids help to aid in the transportation and promote healthy blood vessels, thus reducing pain in the area.
Edamame
Those who want to alleviate symptoms of arthritis should have more edamame in their diet. This is thanks to the soy protein found within it. Tofu and tempeh are other sources that ensure this works. Milk protein is not effective in the same manner.
Hot Peppers
It may not seem like eating something spicy would help anything, but it actually does. Hot peppers have the ability to cancel pain signals thanks to the capsaicin within them. Topical creams with capsaicin work the best for arthritis pain, but eating hot peppers will do the trick as well if enough get consumed.
Yogurt
Pain doesn’t always have to come from the joints or muscles. Stomach pain is a common problem as well, particularly for those suffering from IBS or similar disorders. Yogurt works to fight off bad bacteria within the body, thus eliminating symptoms and alleviating pain felt inside the stomach.
