3 Keys to Living a Longer Life

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone wants to live a long and happy life. We want to spend time with our families and see new places and go on adventures. Life is awesome, and we want to enjoy it for as long as possible. Of course, we can't necessarily control the amount of time we get in life. But we can definitely make some changes to our lifestyle to promote better health and make the years that we get count! If you're interested in happiness and longevity, take a look at these tips for longer living from those who have been enjoying life much longer than you.

Stay Fit

You have probably noticed that you don’t really see very many older obese people. Why? Because the body can’t sustain too much excessive weight. It wreaks havoc on various systems in the body and causes pain and suffering. It also raises the risk of major diseases that are known to shorten life spans. So what should you do? It’s imperative that you engage in regular exercise and keep your body as fit as possible. Stay moving, stay active, and maintain a healthy weight. You don’t have to be perfect, but you have to try! This step is one of the most important for longevity, so join a gym or find a park and get moving.

Exercise Your Brain

It won’t do much good to live to a ripe old age if your mind isn’t sharp and strong. If you’re aiming for longevity, make sure that brain games, puzzles, and mind-building exercises are a part of your normal routine. Learn new things, engage in hobbies on a regular basis, and continually challenge your brain. This can not only lengthen your life, but it may improve the quality of life as well, which is perhaps even more important in the long run.

Lower Your Stress

Excessive stress is harder on the body than most realize. Far too many believe that stress is just a part of life, and we just have to learn to live with it. While a little bit of stress is normal, excessive stress can cause aches and pains, headaches, an inability to focus, a heightened risk of disease, and many other negative side effects. If you want to live a long and healthy life, you need to learn stress management techniques that can keep you calm, centered, and stress-free.

It’s normal to want to live a long life. We all do, and truly that’s a good thing! And while we don’t have total control, it’s important to do what you can to keep your body and mind as healthy as possible. Use these tips to get moving in a healthier direction, and enjoy better health for many years to come.
