Here's Why You Need to Exercise
By Virginia Laird
With work, playing taxi to your children, cooking the meals and all the house chores, it can be less than desirable to add an exercise before bed. Making time to hit the gym routinely can be difficult as life can get in the way. Many health experts may preach the importance of exercising routinely. However, unless you understand why it is important you may not be willing to make the commitment on top of your already busy day. Research suggests there are a plethora of reasons you should exercise routinely, including:
- Exercise can work as a stress relief tool
- Working out can promote weight loss
- Exercise can offer some social interaction
Exercise Can Work as a Stress Relief Tool
For those who struggle to keep stress in check, health and wellness professionals advise that exercise can help rid the body and brain of it. It is suggested that as little as three to four 20-minute workouts each week can decrease stress levels significantly. If finding time to exercise is a problem for you, consider dropping by the gym on your way home from work. Another idea is to find a place to take a brisk walk during your lunch break.
Working Out Can Promote Weight Loss
Research has long provided evidence to suggest exercise can help manage weight. This includes the ability to help with weight loss. Health and wellness experts suggest that exercise, paired with healthy eating, can help increase the rate of weight lost. This is also the best way to maintain weight. There are a variety of health issues which can be improved with the loss of a little weight, including diabetes and high blood pressure, among others.
Exercise Can Offer Some Social Interaction
For those who long for a social life outside of work, the gym can fill that void. Fitness instructors report that those who take fitness classes and stick to it become friends. This can help grow your circle of friends away from the cares and headache of work. If you are looking for more friends or more social interaction, choose a fitness class at your local gym and get to know those who are working out next to you. You may have a lot in common with them.
It is never too late to put your health first. While it can be easy to determine numerous reasons to avoid going to the gym, the benefits will always outnumber them. Don’t let excuses keep you from getting healthy.
