3 Spring Activities That Might Cause Back Pain
By Genevieve Cunningham
There’s just something about spring. The fresh smells, the warm breeze, the blue skies. Spring makes us feel refreshed and excited. Many feel as though the spring brings with it a chance for renewal. It’s a great time to get motivated, start new projects, and to simply increase your activity level. Unfortunately, some of these spring activities may also bring with them a little bit of pain. And this especially happens when you’re just not used to the extra movement. In order to protect yourself and your health this season, take a look at these pain-inducing spring activities, followed by some tips to keep them safe and fun.
Cleaning
The word spring is almost always paired with the word cleaning at one point or another. Cleaning out your house (and even your body!) is a good task to tackle in the warmer months. It gives you a chance to start over and improve your life on the most basic level. But this activity can definitely cause a bit of pain. Cleaning requires bending, stooping, scrubbing, and lifting, all of which can lead to back pain. If you want to protect your back, make sure to take the cleaning slowly, and ask for help when you begin to feel sore or strained.
Exercise
A lot of people use the spring as a time to rededicate themselves to an exercise program. And while this is definitely a good goal, it can also cause a lot of pain, as your body isn’t used to the increase in movement. If you want to tackle a new workout this spring, make sure that you’re stretching thoroughly beforehand, using proper form, and giving your body enough rest.
Gardening
There’s nothing better than spending warm summer days outside in a garden. But this requires plenty of time weeding, digging, pulling, and other back-busting activities. If you want to protect your back, you should probably spend time stretching before you begin. You should also take frequent breaks and spread out the work as much as possible to protect your body.
Protect the Back With Chiropractic Care
Another great way to protect your back and body in the spring is by getting chiropractic care. Since your activity level increases, it’s the perfect time for additional measures. Chiropractors may be able to protect your body by removing restrictions from the vertebrae. These restrictions are known to cause discomfort, and even to limit your range of motion. Regular care may remove current pains, prevent future ones, and give your body an overall better sense of wellness that can make the spring the best time of the year.
