Exercises That Challenge the Body and Make You Sweat

By Genevieve Cunningham

Some people hate exercise. They don't like it, they never will, and they're totally OK with that. Other people love a good workout. In fact, they love it so much, they want each exercise routine to be a serious challenge. They want to feel the burn, so to speak. If you’re in the latter group, you’re probably constantly looking for a new challenge. If so, take a look at these sweat-inducing workouts to keep you motivated and changing for the better.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

High intensity interval training, otherwise known as HIIT, is an excellent way to burn calories and get fit. What does it look like? It’s usually bursts of exercises -- squat jumps, burpees, laterals, etc. -- followed by short periods of rest. The routine can change from day to day to keep it interesting. The bursts of exercise are quite demanding. They’ll require you to use all of your energy and focus, and you’ll definitely break a sweat. The short periods of rest are just enough for you to catch your breath, and then you’ll be up and at it again. If you don’t know where to begin, just do a quick internet search for HIIT routines, or ask a professional at your local gym for a little advice.

Boxing

Have you ever seen boxers or mixed martial artists? They’re ripped! Boxing requires short powerful motions of the body. You’ll strike with your arms and kick with your legs. And all the while, your feet will never stop moving -- you know, the boxer shuffle. Those who give this workout a try often find it incredibly challenging on both the muscles and the cardio. Check out your local gym for a class, or search for a boxing-specific center in your area.

Kettlebells

These big bad weights are a big deal. But why? The best thing about kettlebells is that they allow your workout to be dynamic. You won’t stand still and lift weights in most kettlebell moves. You’ll swing, lift, rotate, and contort your body in various positions. This allows you to work the muscles and your cardio at the same time. Kettlebells are a great way to get that strong lean look. If you want to give them a try, visit your local gym or buy some at your local department store.

If you’re going to workout, you want it to work, right? These three exercises can help you break a sweat, burn more calories, and build strong muscles. Add them into your routine, and you may find the new challenges to be a lot of fun and get you the body of your dreams all at the same time.
