How to Recover After Traveling

By Brandi Swieter

Spring means traveling for many people as they leave work and school behind and head out to see new sights. A relaxing vacation is often just what people need, but not everyone realizes just how much it can actually throw off the body. The hours spent in a car or plane, time spent in an unfamiliar place, and possibly activity-filled visit, can send the body out of whack. With a few tips, people can recover from traveling quicker.

Drink Lots of Water

Too many people overindulge while away on vacation, eating at restaurants, enjoying fast food along the way, gorging on desserts, and drinking sugary beverages. Upon returning home, it’s important to drink plenty of water to hydrate the body and eliminate some of the unhealthy toxins from the body.

Take a Recovery Day

No one should ever get back from vacation on a Sunday and immediately return to work on Monday. One more day is needed for vacation time simply to recover and recuperate from the stress that has been put on the body while away. People can take the time to catch up on sleep and get their bodies acclimated to the time zone they’re back in after being in a different one for a while.

Enjoy Fruits and Vegetables

Just as water is important to rid the body of toxins, so are fruits and vegetables. Chances are, not too many people had their daily intake of the nutritious foods while on vacation. Avoid all junk when returning home and enjoy more vegetables and fruits for a while to help the body recuperate faster.

Visit the Chiropractor

The body often falls out of alignment or suffers from stiffness after traveling. This may be due to the constant sitting while flying, the adventurous activities, the way a person has slept in a bed they’re not familiar with, or a number of other reasons. No matter what the cause, a chiropractor can help alleviate the aches and return the body to proper alignment if necessary.

Traveling is often necessary, but it doesn’t always leave the body in the best condition. Be sure to always follow these tips when returning home so the body can recover quickly and get back to ideal form. It may be best to visit The Joint Chiropractic to have an adjustment to ensure all joints within the body are properly aligned.
