How to Change Your Life One Habit at a Time
By Genevieve Cunningham
Sometimes changing your life is a very appealing, but very challenging, idea. We’re all so comfortable with what we already do … making changes would mean some seriously hard work. But let’s face it: Most of us could use a few changes in multiple areas of our lives. We want to be healthy and happy and productive, but we don’t always act like it based on our habits. If you're really ready to finally commit and change your life for the better, take a look at these tips to help you get started.
Determine Your Goals
You won't be able to change everything at once, so the first thing you should do is determine your goals. What area are you most interested in changing? Your health? Your work? Your family life? Once you make a list of some goals, it’s easier to make a plan of action and begin implementing real changes. List your goals from highest priority to least, and make a plan based on that.
Choose a Simple Habit
Now that you know where you're headed, choose just one simple habit to master. Maybe you want to eat healthier. Start by changing just your breakfast or just your snacks. Maybe you want to be in less of a rush. Start with an earlier bedtime and wake up time. Maybe your goal is to be more productive at work. Start with just one project. Once you master one change in your life, tackle another. Over time, you'll be able to change as much as you want so that you can finally live the life you really want.
Get Some Help
Don't be afraid to reach out for some help. There are plenty of people who can help! Friends and family members are usually eager to help their loved ones make positive changes. Need more help than that? Hire a personal trainer, a nutritionist, or a therapist. Reach out and get the help you need, and you’ll be way more likely to find success.
Changing your life is hard, but it's also possible! And for most of us, the changes are completely worth it. Use these tips to help you get started. With some diligence and self-discipline, you can change your life day by day until you're living just the life you've always wanted.
