Water Can make Exercise More Productive
By Tom Herrin
Most people are somewhat used to conventional exercises. That may include going to a gym or getting outdoors and doing something with greater repetitions. Whether it is running or engaging in some other kind of exercise, many dread the thought. In addition to that, those who may have parts that seem more susceptible to wear and pain tend to suffer more due to the impact of many of these. For those people, as well as others who may be in need of exercise with less stress on the body, exercising in the water may be one of the best activities available.
It Can Increase Strength
Water provides considerable resistance which may be as much as 42 times that of air. That is pretty significant. According to one study, it was shown that after 12 weeks of aquatic exercise, participants increased strength, flexibility, and agility. This is far more productive than conventional exercise with far less potential for damage to body parts. It is a low-impact exercise that can save lots of wear and tear and still produce good results.
It Cuts the Effects of Gravity
Since the body has some buoyancy in water, the effects of gravity are reduced considerably when in water. This means that the muscles can be worked through the resistance of the water without having to deal with working against gravity while doing so. This also means that joints and other parts that may be tender are not subject to the same kind of damage that normally occurs with other exercises. Many people seek hydrotherapy for joint pain and swelling. Exercising in water can serve a similar purpose.
It Can Relieve Stress
Watching water is considered an effective way of relaxing and relieving stress. You may have had the experience of watching a fish aquarium. It can bring about a peaceful and soothing feeling. It is known for having the ability to lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate. This lowers the wear and tear on your body since the heart does not have to work as hard. You may find that whether it is an organized water aerobics class or simply moving about and exercising in the water on your own, you will find that you can get a good workout without some of the other pains that sometimes go along with it.
