7 Spring Options for Outdoor Fitness

By Brandi Swieter

Working out isn’t always fun, but springtime provides the perfect opportunity for people to get in some exercise time in new ways. With some outdoor fitness options, anyone trying to get fit can experience an easier time doing so. At least seven spring options for outdoor fitness exist.

Kite-Flying

Flying a kite burns far more calories than one might think. The running back and forth and working hard to keep the kite in the air will leave people out of breath much faster than some other exercises. It’s also an easy way to relieve stress and make a person feel like a kid again.

Bike Riding

Riding bikes is another fitness option for spring that can bring back childhood memories. This activity works best if people are finding hills to climb, as the extra resistance makes the legs work harder. A smooth ride down some side streets won’t do as much when it comes to developing strength. Either way, the whole body gets a workout when riding, particularly the lower half, making it an excellent choice.

Gardening

Getting into the garden to dig, rake, and plant provides a far greater workout than one might think. It takes a lot of effort, particularly for the arms, to get all the tasks accomplished. Starting and maintaining a garden throughout the spring and summertime is an easy way to maintain fitness.

Bubble-Blowing

Blowing bubbles outside can help a person get in quite the workout if they do it right. Rather than sitting down and blowing a few bubbles, people should get up and run and chase after the bubbles as kids do. Parents playing with their kids in this way would not only make their children happy, but get their bodies in shape as well. It’s an easy way to stay in shape while having some innocent fun.

Chalk Drawing

Drawing with chalk is another fun and easy way to incorporate fitness into the day. Getting down on all fours and coloring a large picture on the ground takes a lot of work. People who move around a lot designing different areas will get more out of the activity. Stand up regularly to admire the work and get back down again to continue for a real workout.

Jump Roping

Playing jump rope as kids do will have the heart pumping in no time. Jumping over the hoop while concentrating carefully on its every move takes a considerable amount of effort. People can get outside with others for a true jump rope challenge or find a smaller, single jump rope to use alone.

Trail Walking

Walking along trails can burn calories while allowing people to see new sights. Skip the local parks that have been frequented often for these workouts. Instead, travel a bit farther to a park or place you’ve never been and walk along those trails for a fun adventure. Pick a new place each time for a change in scenery.

Finding time for fitness is necessary for people of all ages. Springtime is a great time for fitness thanks to the many outdoor activities people can try. Try one or all for a fun-filled spring that gets you in shape.
