The Perfect Workout Equipment for Keeping at Home

By Genevieve Cunningham

Getting fit doesn’t have to be all about the gym. Sure, a gym can be helpful. And it has a ton of resources and equipment to get you moving in the right direction. But if you’re serious about improving your health, you can make it happen without ever leaving your house. If you’re ready to make your home as fitness friendly as possible without emptying the pocketbook, take a look at these inexpensive must-haves to buy today.

Jump Rope

You can get a jump rope for $10 or less! You can probably pick up one at the dollar store. But the things that you can do with a jump rope are so vast. You can, of course, simply jump rope. This is an incredible cardio workout. If you haven’t done it in a while, you may be surprised at how quickly your lungs and legs are burning. But if you want to get outside of the box, just look up some videos on the internet to find other exciting ways to use the rope. With even this one addition to your equipment arsenal, you’ll improve your chances of getting fit in a much faster time frame.

Medicine Ball

Medicine balls can cost around $20, but they bring a real challenge to your exercise routine. Just choose a weight that is challenging enough for you, and then use this ball for various exercises. Throw it against the wall, use it for weighted crunches, or use it for torso twists. You can use a medicine ball in multiple ways, so grab one and give it a try.

Handheld Weights

Handheld weights are incredibly versatile. Use them to simply lift weights, or you can add them to your current routine -- whatever it is -- and it will add another element of difficulty. Handheld weights are inexpensive, and you can get them in varying weights. Choose what works for you, and enjoy the new challenge.

A Step

The good thing about a step is that you can buy one … or you can just use a step that is already at your house. Use your step to do walk-ups, leg lifts, calf raises, box jumps, or any variety of exercises. This will really help work your lower body, and can improve your cardio, too. Buy or find a step, work your legs and glutes, and you’ll be that much closer to a fit body.

A gym can be really beneficial, but it’s not a necessity. The only necessity is determination! If you don’t have the money or time to hit up a gym, pack your house with these fitness essentials and you’ll have enough equipment to get in a great workout every day to get you closer to your ultimate fitness goals.
