3 Ways Your Exercise Habit is Lacking
By Genevieve Cunningham
Exercise. You've been exercising regularly for a long time -- months, maybe even years. But for some reason, it seems as though your routine has stopped working. You're not losing weight. You're not losing inches. You're not feeling pumped. What happened? Chances are good that you've simply hit a burnout. If your current routine is feeling a little lackluster, take a look at these reasons why your workout is lacking, followed by what you can do about it.
It's Lacking Intensity
This happens to a lot of people, and it's especially true if you do the same routine every day. After a while, we lose a little bit of that intensity. We lose that motivation and focus. Maybe we still go and we still work out, but we're just not giving it our all anymore. If this is you, recognizing your lack of intensity is the first step. Then you can change your routine, get a trainer for a while, or work out with a friend who can get you pumped. Getting your intensity back just takes some awareness and effort, so take note and get busy.
It's Lacking Consistency
Are you really working out as consistently as you should be? Or have you started skipping a few workouts here and there? It's easy to slack off and start missing a few sessions. But one of the most important aspects of making your exercise work is consistency. Take a good hard look at your gym habits. If your consistency is waning, make a new schedule and stick to it like glue.
It's Lacking Fun
Working out is important, and there are definitely times when it should be serious. But it should also be fun! Exercise is supposed to feel good and make you smile. If you grin and bear every second of your routine, you need to try something new. Keep trying new routines until you find something that is fun. The more fun your workout, the more likely you are to keep it up on a regular basis.
It's normal to have a little lag in your workout from time to time. But don't let these lags take over and ruin your routine. Watch out for these common workout problems, do what it takes to correct them, and get in the best shape of your life in no time at all.
