Do You Take Vacations for Your Health?

By Tom Herrin

A lot of people set busy schedules as they try to do those things that seem so important to them -- such as getting ahead, making a living, and providing those things that they feel everyone needs to have.  It can be pretty taxing. Far too many have some kind of vision in their sight about what they see as the necessities of life only to find out later that they were highly material things. The sad part is that the most important things in life may be overlooked in the process.  Slowing down enough to “smell the roses” can be one of the most critical parts of building good health both physically and mentally. Taking a vacation may mean all kinds of things, but the critical thing is to take one.

They Can Improve Relationships

Many people get themselves into situations in which work or tasks appear to take priority over people.  An increasing number of people seem to lose touch with their own family to the extent that they fail to recognize their accomplishments.  They often could not identify some family member’s likes and dislikes. A vacation can be a good time to get to know one another better. Spending some quality time can help people to unwind and have casual conversations.

They Can Be Good for the Mind

It is easy to become mentally bogged down with daily activities.  This can overwhelm them with with generally cluttered thoughts about just what they need to do and how.  A good cleansing fast or purification of the body can be a great help from time to time. The same may be said of the mind.  Shifting thoughts away from some of those things that require concentration and attention can clear the mind and allow it to restart.  It can allow a real change of perspective.

They Can Lower Stress

We all know of the damage that can be done so often by stress.  Simple worry, finances, and a variety of other problems can take a pretty good toll on anyone’s health.  I know from personal experience that simply taking a scheduled break from routine can provide an opportunity to put stresses out of sight for at least a while.  It can give a whole new perspective. I have managed to solve plenty of problems while on a vacation. Sometimes that vacation was just a few days off and a brief change of scenery.  And by the way, vacations can be any time of the year that works. Most kids have extra time in the summer, but the important thing is to take a good break.
