How to Successfully Juggle Your Job and Family
By Sandy Schroeder
We all want to do a good job at home and at work, but maintaining a balance can be tricky. Just when you have one going well, the other one goes off track. Creating a successful balance takes work and no one should expect perfection. There will always be those days when a big project is happening at work, and your youngest child falls off of slide and winds up in ER. When those things happen, you just have to stay cool and work your way through it.
Dumblittleman.com offers a few good tips to help you keep your balance along the way.
Organize everything that you can - Eliminating last-minute emergencies really starts with overall planning to take care of job and family priorities. Find spots for everyone’s stuff at home, and keep a running schedule for yourself at work. With a little luck, most of the things that need to happen will.
Delegate tasks wherever you can - Trying to cover every single aspect of life at work and at home can easily stress you out, creating complete exhaustion. Look around for ways to spread the workload out at home, or bring in a few helpers. At work, find ways to simplify the workload and expedite time-takers. Having time to breathe will help you and your family enjoy life more.
Add a few getaways - Plan some family excursions on the weekend to help everybody blow off steam, and take a few personal mini-breaks whenever you can. Biking, camping and hikes may work for the family, and you may benefit from lunch with friends or a massage. Little breathers for everyone makes everything run better.
Make sure everyone rests well - When you are trying to maximize your efforts at home and at work, it’s important for everyone to get enough sleep. Kids cooperate better when they have had a good night’s sleep, and your day will run better, too with 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Establish a quiet time before bedtime to help everyone wind down. Set regular bedtime hours and kick phones, laptops and TVs out of the bedroom. Use blackout drapes to shut out light and air filters to screen noise.
Make the most of every moment - Focus on the moment wherever you are. Give your all to your meetings and then go home and give your full attention to your kids at dinner. That healthy interaction will benefit you and everyone around you.
Juggling can be tricky, but the more you do it the easier it becomes. Keep practicing and enjoy all of your successes.
