Why You Should Plan a Fall Camping Trip

By Brandi Swieter

Camping isn’t reserved for the summer months. Though this is the time most families plan their outdoor adventures, fall weather is truly the best time to enjoy it. A hot fire at night roasting some s’mores would be much better suited for a chilly fall night than a hot summer one. Camping offers plenty of health benefits, making it well worth planning a trip for the fall to end out the season.

A Weekend Getaway Can Bring Stress Relief

The summer months may provide a longer time period to get away from it all, but a long vacation isn’t always necessary. A weekend camping trip in the fall could be all a person needs to reset and find some relief from all the stress they’ve been feeling. The first month or two of back-to-school madness can bring a lot more stress than one anticipates. The winter season will bring even more of that stress to the mix with holidays to celebrate and plan. Taking time in the fall is a great way to ease a person between the transition and help them find some relief for the time being.

Restarting the Body’s Natural Sleep Cycle

Sleep may be a thing of the past by the time fall rolls around. There are too many things to do and tasks to stress over that have people losing sleep each night. A fall camping trip will help the body reset on rest as the Circadian rhythm falls back in place. The body will tire when it gets dark and wake when the sun comes up. This is yet another way to eliminate some of that stress a person has been feeling.

Easing Anxiety

Anxiety and anger can come with feelings of tension. Being in the wilderness is known to ease anxiety and angry feelings, making a fall camping trip ideal for anyone experiencing these emotions. The heart rate drops, blood pressure decreases, and the mind clears. People who simply sit around a campfire and enjoy the feeling of the warm fire on their faces are far more likely to have a sense of calm about them.

A fall camping trip could be the perfect way to end the year before the stress of the holidays begin. It can restart the body’s natural sleep cycle, ease anxiety, and bring stress relief. Anyone on a camping trip, even just for a couple of nights, gets the time away they need to reset and improve their mental health.
